Quiescent center: (in plants) it is a region of the root apical meristem. Cells of the quiescent center do not proliferate much, unlike other cells of the meristem. It has been proposed that the function of this region is to be the niche of the initial cells, that is, it contains cells that support and regulate the stem cells.
