Oranges are a typical example of hesperidium fruit. In this image, the exocarp is observed showing an uniseriate epidermis with cuticle. Below, parenchyma cells are distributed around lysigenous spaces, which are typical structures of this fruit. Although collenchyma is described in the exocarp of hesperidium fruits, it is not observed in this image. The mesocarp is the white part of the orange skin, and contain many simple vascular bundles scattered among soft parenchyma tissue, which shows large intercellular spaces. Close to the endocarp, parenchyma cells become more dense and arranged in two or three layers. In this image, only a portion of the endocarp is visible with cells showing a morphology and organization that resemble epidermall-like tissue.
